Creating Healthy and Productive Teams

In my previous post, I explained that you need to be a real team not just a group of people in order to develop high performing teams.  Next, I want to list the 5 pieces of the puzzle.  Subsequent posts will go into each one in greater depth . . . well a little more depth as these post are meant to give a high level overview about teams an working with teams.

The five key elements to achieve high performing teams:

  1. Clarity of Purpose (e.g. team charter)
  2. Commitment (e.g. trust)
  3. Team Task Skills (e.g. solving problems)
  4. Team Climate  (e.g. ground rules, values)
  5. Team Process Skills (e.g. communication)

You may find some overlap in these elements and so it should be.  Inter-connectivity is a necessary aspect of team work.

As I go through these concepts, I would love to hear about your stories on what has made for successful teams from your work.
