I get a colleague’s weekly inspiration postcards in my inbox. Veroncia Lim and her website are dedicated to inspiring consciousness. This week I quickly read the quote, spoke a silent “yes” and deleted it as I usually do. For some reason, I felt compelled to go back and revisit the thought and what it really means to us.
Dedicate your remaining years to seeing the world as a better place, rather than making it better. When you see it so, you begin to make it so.- Author unknown
Many times, people working on all these wonderfully “great causes” who often lament how awful things are, end up minimizing the positive impact they could really be having. Despite the successes, it seems so much remains “wrong”. I learned a long time ago that what you focus on is what you get. Veronica and others call it the “Law of Attraction” and it spined into the cult movie “The Secret”.
This saying goes so much more beyond focusing our energy on the positive, it asks us to live our lives as though our vision is the reality. . . .and behave accordingly. It demands even more from us than living up to our values. It demands everything.
P.S. I tried to find a source for this quote and couldn’t even identify anything similar.
